Epoxy floor coatings have long been a standard solution for industrial flooring systems applied onto a concrete substrate, but many facilities are making a move toward urethane mortar flooring systems, especially in the food and beverage industry and settings that experience significant temperature fluctuations. Urethane mortar concrete coatings are a versatile option that can be used for a wide variety of applications, including integral cove bases, slopes towards drains, and other inclined surfaces.
A three-part, nominal 1/4” cementitious-polyurethane troweled system for resurfacing interior concrete floors in areas that require thermal shock resistance
A three-part, nominal 1/4" cementitious-polyurethane slurry system with aggregate broadcast, for resurfacing interior concrete floors in areas that require thermal shock resistance and slip resistance
A three-part, nominal 3/16” cementitious-polyurethane slurry system with aggregate broadcast, for resurfacing lightly eroded interior concrete floors in areas that require thermal shock resistance and slip resistance
Urethane mortar flooring systems are long-lasting, easy to clean, and require very little maintenance. Some of the main benefits of these systems include:
One pitfall of epoxy and other common fluid-applied flooring systems is that their performance tends to suffer when they are exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations. Particularly in the food processing industry, it may be necessary for some areas to be refrigerated or frozen, while others are subjected to high temperatures. Even when the same area experiences a drastic shift in temperature urethane mortar flooring systems continue to perform well.
The reason for this is that urethane’s thermal coefficient, or the rate at which it expands or contracts in response to a change in temperature, is similar to that of concrete. Because the urethane mortar reacts to the temperature shift in roughly the same way as the concrete substrate, the bond between the two remains strong. Other floor coatings with a thermal coefficient different from concrete’s will experience more stress during temperature changes, and the bond with the concrete may be weakened, shortening the floor lifespan.
